Commentary  •  Author: Özgür R. Nazilli   •   Monday, March 17, 2008
Now that the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final dates are set, a new question arises in the minds of the Fenerbahce fans: "We have a crucial Besiktas match just days before the historic Quarter Final Chelsea game. Should it be postponed?"

(A small disclaimer: The article that you are about to read is a translation from its Turkish original. It contains literary pieces like quotes from a famous Turkish poem, and as you might know it is really difficult to translate poems without them losing some of their original beauty. Therefore, if something sounds unnatural, please keep in mind that it probably lost some meaning in translation.)

History in the Making: Fenerbahce Amongst the World's Best

Commentary  •  Author: Özgür R. Nazilli   •   Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Well, I thought a long time about the appropriate title to such a historical commentary that would convey my feelings fully, and I decided to keep it simple. Because what better explains Fenerbahce's accomplishment tonight than the bare truth, that Fener made history?

Ankaragucu 0 - 0 Fenerbahce: Aftershocks of the Galatasaray Match

Commentary  •  Author: Özgür R. Nazilli   •   Sunday, March 2, 2008
Fenerbahce came away with an uninspiring draw against Ankaragucu in their final match before the historic second leg Sevilla game. Actually, the fact that next week's Champions League game is labelled as "historic" is in itself an explanation why Fenerbahce has been performing poorly in the past few games. When the Fener players, who were already missing key members like the aggressive yet inarguably effective Lugano and the driving force that is the right back Gokhan Gonul, were caught looking ahead to the Sevilla game, a poor goalless draw was the result at the capital city of Ankara.

Galatasaray 10 - 8 Fenerbahce: Fener Pushed Out Of The Cup

Commentary  •  Author: Özgür R. Nazilli   •   Thursday, February 28, 2008
Galatasaray beat Fenerbahce in their home grounds 2-1 last night in an extremely memorable match. Unfortunately, this "memorable" quality did not come from the high level of football from either of the teams. Rather, with some abysmal decisions, the referee of the match Cuneyt Cakir, managed to become the "man of the match" as the person on the pitch with the most impact on the scoreline, and the derby game went down in history as "the match that possibly ended Cuneyt Cakir's career."

"Rotating Rafa" is another name the Liverpool Manager Rafael Benitez is known by in the UK. Even though the name implies affection, it is usually used to criticize the ways of Benitez, or more specifically, his love of rotating his playing squad. Some people believe that Liverpool is not achieving its potential simply because the main players of the team are not getting enough playing time together.

Dress Rehearsal: Caykur Rizespor 2 - 4 Fenerbahce

Commentary  •  Author: Özgür R. Nazilli   •   Saturday, February 16, 2008
Isn't it fun to answer a goal scored by your opponent with 4, in under 15 minutes? It certainly looked like the players enjoyed themselves when the players got their act together and more than made up for the shock goal they conceded by scoring 4 goals, all in between the 30th and the 45th minutes of the game.
