Alex de Souza has unquestionably cemented his place as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Fenerbahce uniform. The Brazilian-born star has developed a reputation for coming through in tough situations for the Canaries.
Alex joined Fenerbahce in 2004 for a fee of 5 Million dollars from Brazilian side Cruzeiro, also making him one of the best deals in Fenerbahce history. In 2006-2007, Alex led the Turkcell Super Lig in scoring with 19 goals, even though he is a midfielder, and this prowess made him only the third foreign-born player in history to win the title of top scorer in Turkey. Due to his abilities and leadership, he has served as the team captain for both his native Brazilian National Team as well as Fenerbahce.
Alex has more than 250 career goals and after negotiating a contract extension with Fenerbahce last year, is poised to continue his phenomenal play in Kadikoy. Since joining the Yellow Canaries, he has averaged nearly one goal every two games. He’s won a myriad of personal awards, including the Turkcell Super Lig MVP three times. He was also named South America’s Best Midfielder in 2003. He’s also won the Copa America and Copa Libertadores Tournaments with Brazil, as well as a Turkish Super Cup title and numerous Turkcell Super Lig championships with Fenerbahce.
