Mehmet Aurelio is one of the veterans of the Fenerbahce squad as he is in the midst of his fifth season with the Yellow Canaries. Aurelio, born Marco Aurelio Brito dos Prazeres, acquired Turkish citizenship in 2006 and took the Turk name “Mehmet” afterwards.
Aurelio joined Fenerbahce in 2003 after three years with Turkish rivals Trabzonspor. Before that, he played for Flamengo and Olaria in Brazil. Since acquiring Turkish citizenship, Aurelio has been called to the Turkiye National Team and has earned 13 caps so far.
Aurelio has been a major part of Fenerbahce’s success domestically and in Europe. His reputation as a sure-footed midfielder has made him a fan favorite and a reliable teammate. During his time with Fener, he’s helped the club earn three Turkcell Super Lig titles, a Turkish Super Cup championship, and the team’s first-ever appearance in the knockout stage of UEFA Champions League.
