Turkcell Süper Lig MatchDay: Fenerbahçe vs. Diyarbakırspor
News • Author: Nathan Redd • Sunday, February 7, 2010
Fenerbahçe are playing some of their best football in recent months, and the squad is hoping to keep the streak going Sunday. The Yellow Canaries can move three points up on second place Galatasaray with a win at home this weekend. They host Diyarbakırspor in Turkcell Süper Lig play from Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul Sunday at 19:00 local time (12 Noon EST in the U.S.; 5 PM in the U.K.).
The Canaries come into Sunday's match on quite a roll. The team has won three straight matches, outscoring their opponents 11-2 in the process. They blitzed Sivasspor last weekend in league play, then easily took care of Bursaspor 3-0 in Turkish Cup action on Thursday. Even more impressive is that the team has been without striker Dani Güiza during their offensive outbursts.
Now Fener have a chance to make a move at the top of the table. Second place Galatasaray earned only a point on Saturday, so the Canaries can move three points clear of their rivals with a victory Sunday. With the way they are playing and considering their opponents, few expect Fener to struggle for points this weekend.
Diyarbakırspor come into Sunday's match struggling for points and eager to climb out of relegation fears. Ziya Doğan's side haven't won a match since October 25th - a streak of nine straight matches without a victory. No one on the team is among the top 13 goal scorers in the league, and goals have come at a premium for Diyarbakırspor this season.
With so much going against Diyarbakır, a date with Fenerbahçe in Istanbul is the last thing Doğan and his crew would like to see. However, the coach knows that a shocking win over Fener could potentially kick-start his club and change the course of their season.
Diyarbakırspor are back in Turkish football's top flight for the first time in three years, but it could be a short visit if the club can't reverse their fortunes soon. They'll need a miracle in Istanbul, however. The squad played the Canaries well in Diyarbakır earlier this season but still were on the down side of a 3-1 Fener victory. Thierry Tazemeta, tied for the team lead in goals scored, netted the home side a 1-0 early lead back in August before the Canaries roared back for three goals to claim the win.
Diyarbakırspor haven't beaten Fener since 2002 - a streak of eight matches against the Canaries without a win. Diyarbakır have won only four times in their last 20 meetings with Fenerbahçe, while Fener have won 12 of those contests. Still, Ziya Doğan and company hope to catch the Canaries feeling a bit overconfident Sunday after their impressive performances of late.
Fener enter Sunday's contest relatively healthy, with the exception of Uğur Boral, who is out for the season after tearing his ACL Thursday against Bursaspor. Striker Dani Güiza is expected to be available after missing time recently due to injury. The Spanish star practiced with his teammates for the first time this weekend, but his lack of match fitness could prevent him from seeing significant time Sunday. Gökhan Ünal, Volkan Demirel, and Özer Hurmacı all missed practice time earlier this weekend, but all three are expected to be available for Sunday's game.
Fenerbahçe host Diyarbakırspor in Turkcell Süper Lig play from Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul Sunday at 19:00 local time (12 Noon EST in the U.S.; 5 PM in the U.K.). Fans can watch the match live on Lig TV and online at www.digiturkwebtv.com.

Back then we were complete form we had 8 wins out of 8
However saying all this, it depends on our coach really. If we employ another Turkish coach that isn't of the same mindset as Senol Gunes we're not going to qualify because we act all awesome against the small teams.
kazakistan we beat them lastly 6-0 and 4-0
Austria we beat the 4-2
Azerbaijan are quite easy
Belgium are the only tricky side in the group
Germany arent brilliant they beat us with there best squad whilst we played with our whole B TEAM.
I hope we can get Guus Hiddink! He will manage it!
