If not for Andre Santos, Fenerbahçe would have left Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium with no points Sunday night. Instead, a last-moment goal from the Brazilian gave Fener a crucial point against Diyarbakırspor, and keeps them at the top of the league table. Santos spoke to reporters after the match and talked about his team's performance.
Santos said after the match the team took risks and experimented, but could not find a winning goal. He said his team showed spirit with the way they fought back and were otherwise pleased with Sunday's match.
"We had a tight battle on our hands today. We already knew before the match that we would have a difficult task at our hands. Our opponents were very ambitious and strong. From time to time we took control and at other times we had difficulties. We took some risks and tried some things, but we ended up with a draw today. Some days you aren't happy with that, but we showed a lot of team spirit today and we're happy with it," he said.
Santos also thanked the Fenerbahçe fans for their support. "I want to thank our fans, who are always powerful when we play at home. They give us this power as well. Although we couldn't win, we could feel their support until the end when we were on the pitch."
The Brazilian star also talked about playing multiple positions and his role with the team. "I'm happy to play this position. I've always played left back. When I first arrived here, I was playing in a different position, but now I'm back to this position. This helps our performance, I think."
