Hiddink Reiterates His Commitment as Turks Finalize PlansNational Team • Author: Nathan Redd • Saturday, May 29, 2010
The Turkish National Team is in Philadelphia, preparing for Saturday's final friendly of their American tour. They'll face the host United States at 2 PM EST (21:00 Turkish time; 7 PM in the U.K.) at Lincoln Financial Field. The squad wrapped up preparations Friday, just as Guus Hiddink responded to rumours linking him to the vacant Inter Milan coaching job.
Turkey were on the pitch Friday, training for their final friendly against the United States. The final practice session of the tour lasted approximately an hour, which consisted of condition and a practice match.
The team participated in one final scrimmage as they completed their game plan for the United States. It will be the third and final match of Turkey's American tour. The team will return to Istanbul Sunday and will reassemble later this summer as the team gets ready for Euro 2012 qualifying.
Coach Guus Hiddink will officially take over as coach later this summer, but it hasn't prevented speculation linking the veteran coach to the opening at Inter Milan. That job was vacated by Jose Mourinho, who will take over at Real Madrid. The new Turkish National Team coach was rumoured in connection with the job, but Hiddink quickly put an end to that speculation on Friday.
"The media can write whatever they want," Hiddink told reporters Friday. "I'm the coach of the Milli Takım. I'm not going anywhere," Hiddink stated.
