Fenerbahçe manager Aykut Kocaman spoke to reporters in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, where he signalled that one or two new transfers were on their way. "Right now, our efforts are towards transferring a striker. There's a chance that it will be finalized in the next 2-3 days," he revealed. Kocaman also stated his belief that the team will be performing better, once the injured players join the team roster.
Yellow Canaries coach Aykut Kocaman held a press conference at Fenerbahçe's pre-season training camp in Genk, Belgium on Tuesday afternoon. He spoke to reporters on a number of subjects ranging from incoming transfers to the changes he hopes to implement in the team's tactical formation and game plan.
Although there were high expectations that Aykut Kocaman would announce a new signing in Monday's press conference, the Yellow Canaries coach settled with only signalling that a few transfers were on their way. "There's a very strong chance that one or even two transfers will be finalized within this week," he revealed, giving relief to Fenerbahçe fans waiting impatiently for the new arrivals.
"I had already previously said we'd definitely be making a foreign transfer," Aykut Kocaman continued. "Right now, our efforts are towards transferring a striker. There's a chance that it will be finalized in the next 2-3 days," he revealed. "We're looking for players that will add depth especially to our offensive play. Stoch is a good example in that sense. We are in demand for a player that loves to run and dribble the ball forward," explained the Fenerbahçe manager.
Aykut Kocaman also mentioned that they had both foreign and Turkish names in their transfer books, also not denying that they had some goalkeeper transfers in their plans. "Our supporters needn't be worried. If we don't make any transfer, even with our existing squad we will be a step higher than last season; we have to be," commented the Yellow Canaries coach.
The technical director also spoke about the team's current below-par performance, mentioning that things will get better once the injured players are added to the current roster. "Up until now, we haven't really been able to use Gökhan Gönül, Özer Hurmacı, Mehmet Topuz or Emre Belözoğlu. Neither is Diego Lugano with us yet," said Aykut Kocaman. "We have no doubt that once we bring everyone in the squad together, we will raise the team's performance," he commented.
Aykut Kocaman also mentioned about his plans to make changes in Fenerbahçe's tactical formation and game plan. "We have been using a single forward system for a very long time now. It's not right to change this all of a sudden, but I will eventually make this change," stated the Fenerbahçe coach. "The transformation will take place as a result of a process and the players will adapt to this system and myself in time," he added.
Lastly, Yellow Canaries manager Aykut Kocaman also spoke about Fenerbahçe's upcoming UEFA Champions League third qualifying round games against Swiss side Young Boys. "We've played three friendlies in preparation for the Young Boys games. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we play another friendly against Galatasaray and complete our pre-season training camp," stated the Fenerbahçe coach.
"After that, we will start concentrating on our Young Boys match. It's a very important match and our biggest goal will be to eliminate Young Boys and wait to see our next opponent," said Aykut Kocaman. "We've watched one game of Young Boys and we have tapes of their other games. Young Boys look to be a stronger side than how they look on paper. They seem to be a physical and disciplined side," he explained. "I have no doubts about knocking them out of course, but it's not going to be easy," commented Aykut Kocaman.
Meanwhile, Kocaman explained that Uruguayan defender Diego Lugano will be returning for the second leg on Wednesday, 4th August. "Lugano is ruled out for the first game, but he will report back for the second leg. I don't know whether or not he will play, but he will have reported back," explained the Fenerbahçe manager.
